Moon Phases, How Can We Align
The other day I posed a question on my Instagram @triplemoonalchemy about whether or not people understand the phases of the moon and the energy that is available to us under the different phases. Most everyone said yes. Others said yes, but not regularly.
Within nature there are many opportunities for us as humans to get insights on how to vibrate our frequencies on ones that are harmonious with nature itself. Understanding and vibing with the phases of the moon is one of the ways we can align with the rhythm of creation.
If working with the energy of the moon is a new concept for you, let me break some fundamentals down for you.
Consider the ocean tides and how the moon affects them. Emotions correspond with the Water element. Our bodies are made up of about 60% water. It stands to reason that our individual and collective state of being would be affected by the phases of the moon, and eb and flow similarly.
Not only can our emotions be affected but our spirits and our way of thinking too.
Each moon phase vibrates at a different frequency and shifts the universe accordingly. Some activities and thought patterns become easier or more challenging depending. When we can understand how each phase can affect our lives, we can utilize the energy around us to set goals and intentions that will be supported by universal energies. Intention setting is imperative.
The phases are :
New Moon
Waxing Crescent Moon
First Quarter Moon
Waxing Gibbous Moon
Full Moon
Waning Gibbous Moon
Last Quarter Moon
Waning Crescent or Balsamic Moon
*The Dark Moon (Crone time) refers to the period when the Moon is not illuminated in any way. , it is the period between the end of the Waning Moon and the start of the Waxing Moon.
A Dark Moon describes the Moon during that time that it is invisible against the backdrop of the Sun in the sky. The duration of a dark moon is between 1.5 and 3.5 days, depending on the orientation of the Earth and Sun.
Many people these days refer to the Dark Moon as the New Moon. I prefer to use the ancient astronomical definition. That way is more intrinsic to nature. During the Dark Moon, practice banishing rituals.

Let’s begin…
The New Moon
When the moon is New it is directly between the Earth and the Sun. This means that the Sun’s rays are directly and only on the part of the Moon that faces away from the Earth, and therefore the Moon is not visible in the sky at this time.
As the name suggests, this is the moon phase under which there is lots of fresh newness in the air. This is the perfect phase for planting new seeds in your garden and in your life. With this fresh start, get clear on what you want. It’s said to be a great time to set intentions for the month ahead. The energy of this phase can be helpful to propel you to take that step in a new direction that you have been anticipating. Whether it's a new job, a new relationship, or a new project. Align with new moon energy to help get you through.
The Waxing Crescent Moon
The Moon is waxing between the New and Full Moon. During this time, you’ll see a sliver of light from the moon on the right hand side in the northern hemisphere and in the southern hemisphere it will appear on the left. The seeds of possibility that you have planted and meditated on during the New moon phase are ready to be shaped and formed. The waxing phase is gradually leading to the Full moon. Imagine your intentions and aspirations growing from seed stage and becoming bigger and bigger as the moon waxes full. This phase is all about drawing in. Drawing our desires closer to us. The moon waxes for roughly two weeks. This gives you plenty of time to take action and bring your seeds into fruition. Think, deepening your relationships, improving your fitness routine, increasing your money flow etc. Due to the forward velocity of this phase it’s important to note that what you focus on the longest becomes the strongest and that like attracts like. If you are focusing your energy on what you don’t have, especially during this phase, you will be looping yourself into a repetitive cycle of what you don’t want. Break the cycle and meditate on the areas of your life that you wish to improve instead. Cultivate a self care practice that helps you bring more awareness to yourself and others in ways that are nurturing and supportive.
The First Quarter Moon
The First Quarter Moon is when only half of the moon is visible. This is the midway point between a new moon and a full moon. This phase is the action phase. We have planted our seeds of hope in the darkness. We watered and tended to those seeds at the beginning of the waxing period. Now we have arrived at the waxing period when the moon is half visible and it’s time for action. This phase can be very busy depending. The energy of this phase can feel fast paced and frenetic if you are not grounded. During this phase you can become frustrated if things don’t seem to be working out in your favor. Cultivating a self care ritual that helps you to stay focused and grounded in your goals and plans can be helpful during this phase. The energy of this phase supports any calculated risks involved in your new endeavors. You may be more apt to leap now where you may have been less likely during other phases. Also, say what you need to say and make it clear. This phase will support you.
The Waxing Gibbous Moon
At this phase the moon is almost Full. Think of this period as the time right before the baby is born from a pregnant person's body. The period of rest. You have done all the things. You have made all the preparations and set all the intentions. Now we wait. Hold steady. Under this phase cultivate a self care routine that involves reflection, patience and joy. This phase is when we take stock in the ideas and aspirations that we intend. Where we reevaluate things in our lives and prepare for manifestation. This can also be a good time to gain clarity on the areas of our lives where we can make changes that better serve us and those around us. We tend to see our truths more clearly during this phase. Use its energy for self awareness and to take note of any aspects of the self that you'd like to work on to improve. It’s time to cultivate an abundance practice. All of this self reflection will come to peak as we move into the next phase. Fullness.
The Full Moon
The Full Moon occurs when Earth is directly between the moon and the sun. The Sun is fully illuminating the moon so we see the moon in its full glory for Earth. It marks the midpoint of the lunar cycle. During this phase, the moon is at its peak energy. It is the phase of heightened awareness and energy. It is the time to enjoy and engage in a pleasure practice that is fulfilling and feels right for you. This energy is available for about the two days leading to the full moon, during the full moon and approximately one and half days after the full moon. All of your seeds, aspirations, and plans can now come to fruition and you can experience the manifestation or blossoming of the work you put in. It is the birthing phase. Celebration is in order. This phase is truly a great period to have a celebration or party of any kind. The vibes will be high and the people will most likely show up. This is the perfect phase to cultivate a gratitude practice also. What would that look like for you? Reconciliation can come easier during this phase too. If you haven't had the will or the courage to make amends or clear the air with someone that you care about, the energy of the full moon phase can be a big help. Allow this energy to propel you. Be advised though, this energy can have folks all in their feelings in ways that do not align with your emotional state. Have grace and choose to engage at a less heightened period. The full moon phase is also a great time to charge your crystals under the light of the full moon. Get into a yoga or meditation practice that will help to provide clarity. Get a card reading done. Do a card reading on yourself! Think of the full moon as a crystal ball. What do you wish to see at this time? For yourself and the world around you?
The Waning Gibbous Moon
The moon appears to shift. Darkness creeps along the side of the moon and it becomes less full day by day. This is a phase to look outside of yourself. Beyond your wants and needs. How can I be of service? Where is my energy welcomed? As we are experiencing manifestation from our previously seeded intentions, it’s now time to share. Continue to cultivate and activate your gratitude practice. Doing so will align you with generosity and grace energy. Both of which will assist you when it’s time to pour into others. This phase is also the time to prepare for the Dark and New moon phase once again.
The Last Quarter Moon
It’s time to release and let go. To forgive and move one. It’s about transformation. You may experience an onslaught of emotions during this phase. You may feel out of sorts. It’s expected. Your grounding practice will come to be very helpful during this phase. Yoga? Rekhi? meditation/visualization? Whatever it is, do it. You will gain greater awareness and control of your emotions at this time. If you haven’t experienced manifestation of your aspirations during the previous phases, don’t loose heart and get lost in your feelings. Some things take more time than others to come to fruition. Realize this and move forward. While you are clearing your emotional clutter, don;t forget your actual house as well. Under this moon phase it is a great time to deep clean your home. If you have lacked the energy throughout the month, you will more easily bend to the flow of clearing now. Also, forgiveness is key during this phase. For yourself and others. You may be more willing to let go and move beyond limiting thoughts and just get on with your life. The energy of this phase is ready to assist with that.
Waning Crescent Moon
The waning crescent is the last phase of the moon. The moon is receding and appearing smaller and darker as it transitions into the New Moon. This is the rest and recuperate phase of the moon. It’s time to restore and become still. Slow down. Vegg out and chill. Under the waning moon the available energy is ripe for spiritual growth. Go inward and just be still. This is not the time for action related activity. This is the time to do nothing. Think on things. Meditate on things. Write things down for sure. But do not make moves. Pay attention to what comes up for you and around you. Is the universe showing you anything that you should take note of? Your selfcare practice under this phase should be nurturing and peaceful. Long baths, long walks, and card readings are helpful during this phase. Being around folks we enjoy. Binge watching a show that you have put off can even be helpful during this phase of retreat. Do what makes you feel comforted, and supported. Plan your seeds for the New Moon phase coming up when the whole cycle repeats. Infinite…
